I have mentioned a number of points that may apply to you. As a beginning writer, you will develop your own technique. Today I want to bring up two points, the first of which can help you to write a little “easier”. It is quite possible that you already use it.
Long and complicated words.
If you often use a word like “electromagnetic” or any other word in your story that you always have to think about a fraction longer than normal, then Microsoft Office (which I use) has a handy tool. Go to “File”, scroll to “Options”, click “Proofing”, “AutoCorrect Options”. A new window will open. In “Replace” type the letter e. In “With” type electromagnetic. Also click on “Plain Text”. Click “Add”, “OK” and if you now type the letter e in your story, the word electromagnetic will appear. If that word is at the beginning of a sentence, then type E and it will say Electromagnetic. Using this abbreviation also works with a comma and other punctuation marks such as ‘e, e?, e!, but not with the punctuation mark: e. If you want the word electromagnetic. to appear with a period at the end of the sentence, you have to go back to “AutoCorrect” and type e. and in “Replace” electromagnetic. with the period.
The second point of attention that I want to mention: editing. Your story is finished. You are a satisfied person and convinced that there are no more mistakes in it. Let me help you out of your dream: it is not, even though you may have read it four or five times and even checked the spelling.
Next time I will continue with editing, for me as a writer a very important subject if you want to turn a manuscript into a book.
More next time,
Rolf
